The Commemoration Event of the International Day of Peace 2018 holds in Jiangsu, China


Jointly organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD), Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government and the United Nations System in China, the Commemorative Event for the International Day of Peace 2018 was successfully held from 18 to 20 September in Nanjing, Capital of Jiangsu Province. The event was attended by more than 150 representatives including peace organization leaders and think tank experts from over 50 countries and Chinese participants.
General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPC and President of China Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the event. Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan attended the event and delivered remarks at the opening ceremony. He also collectively met with foreign political leaders. The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres also sent a congratulatory video message for the event. Vice Chairman of National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Vice President of the CPAPD Ma Biao, Advisor to the CPAPD and Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC) Song Tao, Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC) Wang Yajun, Secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Chair of the Standing Committee of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Congress Lou Qinjian, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Governor of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government Wu Zhenglong, Standing Member of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee Zhang Jinghua, Vice President of the CPAPD and former Vice Minister of the IDCPC Yu Hongjun and Zhou Li, Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Mr. Enkhtuvshin Ulziisaikhan, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and former President of Costa Rica Oscar Arias, former French Prime Minister Dominique Galouzeau De Villepin, former Prime Minister of Japan Hatoyama Yukio, Chairman of Nepal Communist Party and former Prime Minister of Nepal Prachanda, and President of the National Regeneration Movement of Mexico Yeidckol Polevnsky Gurwitz attended the event.
The theme of the commemorative event this year was “Work Together to Build a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind & a World of Lasting Peace and Universal Security”, which reflected China’s determination to sticks to the path of peaceful development and unswervingly safeguard world peace, but also accorded with the theme of the International Day of Peace this year “The Right to Peace---The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70” identified by the UN. It also reflected the practical demand for the international community to eliminate the deficit of peace and deal with security challenges, and expressed the aspirations to peace of the Chinese people and rest peoples in the world.
The event consisted of welcome banquet, opening and closing sessions, the first plenary session and peace forum, the second plenary session and security forum, a thematic commemorative ceremony at the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders, a thematic cultural performance entitled Ode to Peace, reception banquet by Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government and press conference. Supportive video clip with the theme of Covenant of Peace and publicity posters were also issued.
Through people-to-people channel, the event had shown that China had firm determination and confidence to sticks to the path of peaceful development and building a community with a shared future for mankind, voiced the strong appeal that the CPC, the Chinese Government and Chinese people wish to work together with all peoples in the world for seeking, safeguarding and sharing peace, demonstrated the active actions and significant role of civil society in safeguarding world peace, and disseminated the achievements of reform and opening up and features of culture of peace obtained by Jiangsu Province and Nanjing City.
