Wanshou Dialogue on Global Security held in Beijing


The First Wanshou Dialogue on Global Security organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) was held in Beijing from June 20 to 21, 2018. Some 50 renowned scholars on security studies from China and 19 other countries including the US, Russia, Japan, Germany and India attended the dialogue. Focusing on the theme“Asia-Pacific Security”, the scholars had in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics like Sino-US relations and Asia-Pacific security, security situation in Northeast Asia and its prospect, and security mechanism construction in the Asia-Pacific region.
 
Mr. Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC) attended the dialogue and delivered a keynote speech entitled gathering consensus of our era, jointly build a security homeland for the Asia-Pacific region, in which he elaborated his views on current international security situation, particularly, the Asia-Pacific security, explained China’s policies and concepts on building a new type of international relations and a community of shared future for humankind. Importantly, he also proposed ideas for security governance in the Asia-Pacific region: First, we should stick to win-win cooperation and promoting common development, thus laying a solid economic foundation for Asia-Pacific security. Second, we should stick to mutual respect and promoting equality and mutual trust, thus laying a solid political foundation for Asia-Pacific security. Third, we should stick to mutual learning among civilizations and promoting communication and connectivity of people’s heart, thus creating a solid social foundation for Asia-Pacific security. Fourth, we should stick to dialogue and consultation and promoting conceptual innovation, thus gathering a larger consensus for Asia-Pacific security. Fifth, we should stick to jointly building through consultation to meet the interests of all parties and promoting security cooperation, thus exploring effective architecture for Asia-Pacific security.
 
Mr. Wang Yajun, Vice Minister of the IDCPC and Advisor to the CPAPD attended the opening ceremony and made a speech in which he did hope that Wanshou Dialogue on Global Security would become a high-end and professional platform for discussing international security issues. Mr. Yu Hongjun and Mr. Zhou Li who both are Vice President of the CPAPD attended all sessions throughout the dialogue. Ms. Fu Ying, Vice Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress attended a dinner meeting and addressed the audience.
 
Experts and scholars from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, National Defense University of People’s Liberation Army, China Institute of International Studies, China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, and University of International Relations participated in the dialogue and exchanged views with their overseas colleagues on issues such as the current security situation in the Asia-Pacific region, Asia-Pacific security governance, China’s security concept, security strategy and security policies, etc..
 
All participants gave enough credits to and highly value the dialogue, and highlighted that held at the right time, it was with features of “high-end and professional”, pertinence of the theme and topics were quite evident, and achieved the goal to have in-depth exchanges, promote mutual understanding, seek common ground while putting aside difference, and gather consensus.
 
To organize such a seminar is an active exploration by the CPAPD under new circumstances through optimizing its advantages and features, strengthening security studies, and making great efforts to build a Think Tank for dialogues on global security issues.
