CPAPD Delegation Attended the BRICS Peace Meeting in Moscow and Visited the U.S.


At the invitation of Russian International Federation for Peace and Conciliation and the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), a 6-member CPAPD delegation, headed by its Secretary General Mr. Zhu Rui, attended the international enlarged advisory meeting of the BRICS countries’ peace organizations in Moscow from March 4 to 5, and visited the U.S. from March 6 to 10.
During the meeting in Moscow, Mr. Zhu made a speech entitled “Promoting cooperation among emerging economies for a new international political and economic order and the role of civil society in the process” at the plenary session and met with his foreign counterparts, exploring the approaches to strengthen exchanges and practical cooperation in the future between the CPAPD and its foreign partner organizations. The participants decided to further consolidate the mechanism of the BRICS peace and development forum within which two international meetings had been held in Beijing and New Delhi respectively. In Washington D.C., the CPAPD delegation called on the Brookings Institution, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the U.S. Institute of Peace, the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Nuclear Threat Initiative, and conducted heat discussions with experts from above-mentioned institutions on issues of common concern such as Sino-US relations, regional and international security situation and nuclear disarmament. The delegation also visited the AFSC Office in D.C., consulting with the staff in the office on the details of bilateral cooperation in 2013.
