The International Day of Peace in China


A series of activities to observe the International Day of Peace were held from September 21st to 24th in Liaoning Province. The activities were co-sponsored by the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD), United Nations System, Chinese Association for International Understanding (CAFIU), China NGO Network for International Exchanges (CNIE), Chinese Foundation for Peace and Development (CFPD), and Liaoning Provincial Government in China. The activities covered of the Opening Ceremony, the Northeast Asia Economic Forum, the Cultural Performance and exhibition with the theme of peace in Shengyang; Field trips in different cities of Liaoning province; Northeast Asia Peace and Development Forum with the theme of “Upholding Northeast Asia Peace and Stability, and Promoting Multi-lateral Cooperation and Common Development”  in Dalian city. Mr. Wang Gang, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference were present at the opening ceremony. Mme. Yan Junqi, Vice Chairwoman of the NPC Standing Committee and Vice President of the CPAPD, leaders from Liaoning Province, UN Resident Coordinator in China Ms. Renata Dessallien, as well as representatives from Northeast Asian countries such as former Prime Minister of Japan Mr. Murayama, former Prime Minister of Mongolia Mr. Bayar, and former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Mr. Lee Hongkoo attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches respectively. About 250 foreign delegates and thousands of representatives from all walks of life in China participated in the series of activities.
